Kristian Campbell
Kristian Campbell Will focus on adding strength
Mon, Oct 27, 2025, 10:26 AM
Red Sox director of player development Brian Abraham said recently that adding strength will be "a big focus" for Campbell this offseason, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Campbell lost weight during the season -- which is fairly typical, particularly for young players -- and the Red Sox believe that contributed to a dip in how hard he was able to impact the ball. It was a disappointing rookie campaign for Campbell, who finished with a .223/.319/.345 batting line over 67 games for the Red Sox before spending the final three-plus months in the minors. The 23-year-old will compete in spring training for a spot on Boston's Opening Day roster. Campbell is primarily a second baseman, but he also saw playing time in the outfield for the Red Sox and was introduced to first base at Triple-A Worcester.
Isaiah Campbell
Isaiah Campbell Cleared from 40-man roster
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 2:10 PM
The Red Sox outrighted Campbell to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.
Analysis: Campbell has been torched for 19 runs (18 earned) over 14.1 innings over the last two seasons during his brief time with the Red Sox. He's no longer on the 40-man roster but will remain in the organization for the time being.
Jose De Leon
Jose De Leon Outrighted to Triple-A
Fri, Oct 17, 2025, 2:06 PM
The Red Sox outrighted De Leon to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.
Analysis: De Leon made one late-season appearance for the Red Sox but has lost his 40-man roster spot heading into the offseason. The right-hander has the ability to reject the assignment and become a free agent, but it's unclear what his plans are.
Alex Bregman
Alex Bregman Plans to opt out of deal
Tue, Oct 14, 2025, 10:53 PM
Bregman is expected to opt out of his contract with the Red Sox in the offseason, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Bregman signed a one-year $40 million contract with Boston last winter that included $40 million player options for the 2026 and '27 campaigns. The 31-year-old will now forgo his two option years and pursue a multi-year contract in free agency. After slashing .273/.360/.462 with 18 homers, 62 RBI and 64 runs scored over 114 regular-season games during his first season in Boston, he will likely have plenty of suitors vying for his services.
Connor Wong
Connor Wong Undergoes hand surgery
Thu, Oct 9, 2025, 10:14 AM
Wong underwent a successful right hand carpal boss excision procedure Thursday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: A carpal boss excision involves the removal of a painful bony growth on the back of the wrist. The Red Sox did not reveal a rehab timetable for Wong, but the surgery is considered minor. Wong slashed only .190/.262/.238 over 63 games for the Red Sox in 2025, losing his starting job to Carlos Narvaez (knee). Narvaez had surgery himself this week, but both catchers should be fine for the start of spring training.
Carlos Narvaez
Carlos Narvaez Undergoes knee surgery
Thu, Oct 9, 2025, 8:21 AM
Narvaez underwent a successful left knee meniscectomy Wednesday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Narvaez played through a meniscus injury in his knee for much of the second half of the regular season and the playoffs before having a cleanup procedure Wednesday. He is expected to be fully recovered before spring training and should enter the 2026 season as Boston's top catcher after slashing .241/.306/.419 with 15 home runs in 118 contests.
Triston Casas
Triston Casas Not guaranteed 1B job in 2026
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 12:44 PM
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow on Monday would not commit to Casas (knee) being the team's starting first baseman next season, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Breslow also noted that while Casas is "doing really well" in his recovery from surgery in May to repair a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee, he could not guarantee the 25-year-old will be ready in time for Opening Day. If healthy, Casas is the heavy favorite to break camp as Boston's primary first baseman, but the Red Sox are keeping their options open at this early juncture of the offseason. Injuries have limited Casas to just 92 games over the last two seasons, and he slashed only .182/.277/.303 across 29 contests in 2025 before his knee injury.
Carlos Narvaez
Carlos Narvaez Set for meniscus surgery this week
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 10:31 AM
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Monday that Narvaez will undergo arthroscopic surgery this week to repair the meniscus in his left knee, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Narvaez played through a damaged meniscus for much of the second half of the regular season and will have a cleanup procedure on the knee following Boston's elimination from the playoffs. It's considered a minor surgery and is not expected to affect the catcher's availability for the start of spring training. After slashing .273/.347/.439 in the first half, Narvaez hit only .187/.233/.387 after the All-Star break, suggesting the knee issue hampered his offensive production. The 26-year-old should enter the 2026 campaign at the top of the catcher depth chart for the Red Sox.
Connelly Early
Connelly Early Takes loss against Yankees
Thu, Oct 2, 2025, 11:26 PM
Early (0-1) allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out six to take the loss in Thursday's Wild-Card game against the Yankees.
Analysis: Early got through three innings with minimal trouble, recording multiple strikeouts in both the second and third frames. However, he got into trouble in his final inning of work, surrendering four hits and a walk to account for all of the runs against him. Early was also hurt by some shaky defense behind him, but he was ultimately outdueled by fellow rookie Cam Schlittler.
Connelly Early
Connelly Early Likely to start potential Game 3
Tue, Sep 30, 2025, 2:15 PM
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that Early would likely start a potential Game 3 of the American League Wild Card Series versus the Yankees, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Early became the most likely candidate to take the ball in Game 3 after Lucas Giolito (elbow) went down, and Cora has confirmed it will indeed be the lefty, barring something unforeseen. The rookie collected a 2.33 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 29:4 K:BB across 19.1 innings covering four September starts for the Red Sox.
Lucas Giolito
Lucas Giolito Unlikely to pitch this postseason
Tue, Sep 30, 2025, 2:12 PM
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that while Giolito's right elbow injury is not as bad as the team feared it might be, the hurler is unlikely to be available at any point during the postseason, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Giolito seems to have been cleared of any structural damage after a visit with Dr. Jeffrey Dugas, but the right-hander needs extended rest, so he's done for the season even if the Red Sox make a deep postseason run. It's poor timing for the Red Sox and also Giolito, who will enter free agency this winter. Giolito had a nice bounce-back 2025 campaign, posting a 3.41 ERA and 121:56 K:BB over 145 frames, but he'll head into the free-agent market with health questions.
Masataka Yoshida
Masataka Yoshida Out of lineup Tuesday
Tue, Sep 30, 2025, 1:53 PM
Yoshida is absent from the lineup Tuesday in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series against the Yankees.
Analysis: It will be lefty Max Fried on the bump for the Yankees, so the left-handed-hitting Yoshida will retreat to the bench to begin the contest. Rob Refsnyder is starting at designated hitter and batting leadoff for the Red Sox.
Nathaniel Lowe
Nathaniel Lowe Absent from Game 1 lineup
Tue, Sep 30, 2025, 1:42 PM
Lowe is not in the lineup Tuesday for Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series versus the Yankees.
Analysis: It's southpaw Max Fried on the bump for the Yankees, so the left-handed-hitting Lowe will begin the festivities on the bench. Romy Gonzalez will handle first base and bat cleanup for the Red Sox.
Wilyer Abreu
Wilyer Abreu Sitting out versus Fried
Tue, Sep 30, 2025, 1:40 PM
Abreu is not in the lineup Tuesday for Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series against the Yankees.
Analysis: With lefty Max Fried drawing the start for the Yankees, the left-handed-swinging Abreu will yield to Nate Eaton in right field. Abreu went just 3-for-21 with eight strikeouts down the stretch of the regular season after returning from a calf injury.
Liam Hendriks
Liam Hendriks Undergoes elbow surgery
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 4:10 PM
Hendriks recently underwent right elbow ulnar nerve transposition with posterior interosseous nerve release surgery, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: There's no word yet on a timeline for Hendriks' recovery, but it's possible his availability for the beginning of next season is affected. Hendriks was limited to only 13.2 innings for the Red Sox in 2025, mostly due to a hip injury, and held a 6.59 ERA and 12:7 K:BB. He will turn 37 in February and will be a free agent this winter.
Alex Bregman
Alex Bregman Ready for Game 1 despite illness
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 3:01 PM
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Monday that Bregman should be fine to play in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series on Tuesday versus the Yankees despite missing the final two games of the regular season due to illness, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Bregman was kept away from the club for most of the past two days and traveled separately from the team to New York, but he worked out on the field at Yankee Stadium on Monday and will be ready to roll for Game 1. The 31-year-old stumbled a bit to the finish line in slashing just .216/.310/.330 in September, but his full-season OPS of .821 was his highest mark since 2019.
Lucas Giolito
Lucas Giolito Out for wild card with elbow issue
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 1:56 PM
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Monday that Giolito is dealing with a right elbow injury and will not be on the team's American League Wild Card Series roster against the Yankees, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: If healthy, Giolito would have started a potential Game 3. Instead, he is headed to visit with Dr. Jeffrey Dugas, who performed the right-hander's March 2024 internal brace surgery. More clarity on Giolito's possible availability for later playoff rounds could be available following that exam. Connelly Early would now seem to be the favorite to start a potential Game 3 against the Yankees, though Cora declined Monday to divulge who would pitch that contest.
Garrett Crochet
Garrett Crochet Starting Game 1
Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 7:20 PM
Crochet will draw the start on the mound in Game 1 of the wild-card round against the Yankees on Tuesday.
Analysis: Crochet, as expected, is set to toe the rubber as the Red Sox begin their postseason journey Tuesday. The southpaw produced an impressive 2.59 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 255 strikeouts over 205.1 innings in 32 starts, including a complete-game shutout, during the regular season. Crochet has gone 3-0, while posting a 3.29 ERA with 39 strikeouts over 27.1 innings in four starts against the Yankees in 2025.
Roman Anthony
Roman Anthony Moving rehab to Florida
Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 3:11 PM
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Sunday that Anthony (oblique) will continue workouts at the team's complex in Florida during the upcoming week, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Analysis: Anthony won't be part of the Red Sox's roster for the wild-card round of the playoffs, but if he responds well to his upcoming workouts in Florida, he could be activated at some point later in the postseason if the team advances. Before landing on the injured list Sept. 3 due to a left oblique strain, Anthony hit .292 with eight home runs and four stolen bases over his first 71 big-league games.
Romy Gonzalez
Romy Gonzalez On bench Sunday
Sun, Sep 28, 2025, 1:04 PM
Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
Analysis: Gonzalez was seeing consistent run at second base, though this is now his second consecutive absence to close out the regular season. The 29-year-old has proven to be an excellent fit with the Red Sox, as he's slashed .290/.329/.457 over the past two regular seasons, and if he's healthy he figures to serve as a starter in the playoffs.
